re: Peets, I have only stopped into Peets a few times--no store near me, but I was impressed with the execution, coffee and the training of the baristas.

Michaele, You know it would make a great Food TV show to have someone travel to all 200 American cafes--I would actually guess that there are more than that in the US. Simple Food Network format--meet the staff, try the coffee, maybe flash to origin where the beans come from--could be brilliant!

Also, by "good" I include atmosphere--specifically, the soundtrack. I was recently in a Peet's and they were playing Jazz--I actually walked outside to check the sign that I was in the right place. Thanks, David S

I am not sure that LA wants to be known as the Specialty Coffee Capital of America--but I am sure that I want great coffee & I am finding it more and more all over Southern California. I am concerned about your examples...

Seattle/Portland/San Fransisco all have amazing coffee. LA/OC/SD have amazing coffee that is VERY different.

Groundwork is fine, but Abbots Habit is better & Urth Caffe can be great. Hell Javatini can be better--you are hitting High End Hipster spots, not the true bread and butter of Southern California.

Please, the next time you are down hit Kean (which is still only in Newport Beach)--that will show you the differences between LA coffee and The Great Northern Pacific Pyramid! Thanks, David S

Thanks, Jake, I so appreciate the support. I have been a bit overwhelmed personally and professionally--hence how long it took me to respond, but I am very grateful for the warm reception I got in Seattle and would totally love to visit again. I am working to try to make that happen, with a few interesting irons in fires.
Best to you,
Michaele

You write about a subject I'm passionate about. I've had many similar disappointing coffee experiences at fine dining establishments.

It never ceases to amaze me how great chefs orchestrating wonderful culinary experiences from their prestigious kitchens continue to entirely miss the culinary coffee opportunity at the end of the meal.

"Fine Dining Coffee Experience - Leaves Something to be Desired" supports your campaign for a "Conversion Experience".

Michaele, thanks for taking the time to meet with us all in Seattle! We would certainly welcome you back any time. It took me awhile to post about the book, but I'll definitely be recommending God in a Cup as a great gift idea for any coffee lover.
